Married at 21 and 22, we wanted children right away. So excited to be parents, all the negative pregnancy tests were confusing and frustrating! Didn't people just have sex and get pregnant?!? Five years into our marriage we decided to adopt. The process was quick and smooth, setting us back only about 9 grand. I got to be in the delivery room, and we now have the most beautiful boy in the world!
But now that he's one, I'm beginning to go crazy about getting pregnant so that our children are close in age. We would adopt again, but it tore my heart out to accept such a beautiful baby from a young couple who obviously loved him more than anything...I just don't think I could go through that again. I felt guilty about it for months and months. This is why we're trying our fourth IUI in a week.
Every month I 'feel' like I'm pregnant, and it sucks! My husband and I both have gone through much testing and everything looks great, which makes it more frustrating that there's nothing to fix. I don't get upset anymore when someone we know announces their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5TH pregnancies, but when my little sister announced her second, I had to go home and eat ice cream.
Lessons Learned
- If we had gotten pregnant right away, we never would've adopted our baby boy. He is the joy of our lives, and such a special, sweet child. Guess the Lord knows what he's doing after all:) Looking back now, I can see how God prepared us for an adoption, and how he prepared our son's birthparents for the most difficult task of their lives - placing their son with a husband and wife who were ready to be parents. How truly blessed we are! And just think, selfish me wants another baby, RIGHT NOW! When will I ever learn??
