Definition:

A varicocele is an abnormal enlargement of a vein in the testicles. It is similar to a varicose vein, which is more commonly found in the legs.

A varicocele can appear in either testicle, but it is most often found on the left scrotum. On the outside, it may look like a tangle of blood vessels. It usually doesn’t cause pain, but if discomfort does occur, surgery can remove the varicocele.

The enlarged vein may lead to overheating of the testicles, or blockage of the ducts, leading to male infertility.
