Conceive's Top 50 Companies for 2008
Monday March 3, 2008
Conceive Magazine has published its Top 50 Companies list for 2008. They ranked companies based on fertility treatment coverage and adoption benefits. The top ranked company on their list was Abbott Laboratories (a pharmaceutical and medical product manufacture), who according to their report offers a $35,000 lifetime cap on fertility treatment, plus an additional $15,000 for fertility drugs.
Looking through the list, it’s difficult not to feel a little jealous of the employees of these top companies. I don’t know if anyone would get a job just for the fertility benefits (or maybe you would?), but it’s definitely eye-opening to see what’s out there.
How does your employer stack up? Do you get amazing benefits with your company, or were you shocked to see what kind of help these top 50 companies offer? Share your thoughts in the forums, or here in the comments.

My husband works at ADM and they offer great coverage of $20,000 for infertility and $250 co-pay on all injectibles. Very helpful since my insurance doesn’t cover any of it. (^.^)
I am for a developer and don’t get any benefits at all.
Other than the satisfaction of working here, I guess.
I read the article and it made me really mad. Sure, it’s nice to get IVF benefits, but did you see the maternity benefits? If employers are really committed to their employees (both male and female, because the men’s benefits are just as paultry) then they need to step up! Some MAJOR employers like Verizon didn’t have any maternity benefits at all! Fortunately, I dont’ use Verizon because if I did, I would certainly break all ties with them. This country has a long way to go. We used to rail against the communist, but come on, at least they had great maternity leave benefits. We can do better. It affects the bottom-line? So what - so does treating people like they’re nothing.
PS: I work for a major full priced women’s clothing retailer and we have fertility benefits (IVF and IUI).
So only some states passed the new bill conserning the coverage for infertility, wich has created a huge loophole for coroprations, many are shifting their HMO/PPO plans to states that don’t demand the new bill. So for example as in my case my spouse works for a national chain here in MA(MA demands coverage), yet the plant base down south in GA does not allow for coverage, so because the plan is drawn in GA the workers in MA get skrewed. When the hell are lawmakers and business men going to stop deciding who get’s medical treatment in this country? infertility is a disease that can be measured by tests done by your doctor, we should all complain until every state passes the law for infertility. Being able to reproduce is a basic life event that many can’t paarticipate in, and lucky us we have the technology to fix it but just not the financials to back it, that is the real sad thing we created a cure but made it so expensive many can’t afford it at the age they would need it.
