What is Infertility?

Tuesday January 29, 2008
You probably already know the basic definition of infertility – an inability to get pregnant. But did you know that infertility also includes women who can get pregnant, but continually miscarry? Did you know that infertility can affect couples who have had children successfully in the past?

Some other interesting facts about infertility:

  • According to the CDC, there are 6.1 million women between the ages of 15 and 44 with impaired fertility.

  • Infertility affects men and women equally – with one-third of infertility cases involving the woman, one-third involving the man, and the remaining third involving problems on both sides or unexplained causes.

  • A woman’s fertility peaks between the late teens and twenties, and begins to decline starting around age 30.

Want to learn more? I encourage you to read my article What is Infertility, which also includes the facts behind some commonly held infertility myths.
